Cette fascination m\u2019a conduit du Super 8 familial \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris 8 Vincennes-St Denis, puis vers une pratique personnelle du <strong>cin\u00e9ma exp\u00e9rimental<\/strong>, image par image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 travers FilmParImage, je souhaite partager mes films, mes recherches, mon parcours, et offrir un espace de d\u00e9couverte autour d\u2019un cin\u00e9ma souvent m\u00e9connu mais profond\u00e9ment cr\u00e9atif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>Introduction<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Since childhood, I\u2019ve been fascinated by moving images and by the mysterious process that turns still pictures into motion. Cette conviction s\u2019est confirm\u00e9e lorsque, en faisant pause sur mes propres images, les figures g\u00e9om\u00e9triques que je croyais voir se dissolvaient en ne laissant plus appara\u00eetre qu\u2019une simple ligne. Ce carr\u00e9 que j\u2019avais \u00ab vu \u00bb avait pourtant exist\u00e9 \u2014 dans un espace-temps qui ne se r\u00e9v\u00e8le que dans le d\u00e9filement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce que j\u2019appelle <strong>mon truc<\/strong> n\u2019est pas un trucage : c\u2019est un r\u00e9glage du r\u00e9el. Comme le m\u00e9canisme de la Croix de Malte r\u00e9v\u00e9lait un cheval au galop \u00e0 partir d\u2019images fixes, <strong>mon proc\u00e9d\u00e9 r\u00e9v\u00e8le d\u2019autres formes d\u2019existence<\/strong>, tout aussi r\u00e9elles, mais perceptibles uniquement dans un montage image par image repens\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans l\u2019industrie audiovisuelle classique \u2014 que j\u2019ai longuement pratiqu\u00e9e \u2014 on commence par la voix, le discours, puis on \u00ab habille \u00bb ensuite avec des images. Moi, depuis toujours, c\u2019est l\u2019inverse : <strong>je pars de l\u2019image<\/strong>, comme le peintre part de sa toile. Et l\u2019image me dit comment le monde se souvient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>My Artistic Approach<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From the moment I made my first films, I discovered that cinema can reveal what the naked eye cannot see: forms that exist only in the passage from one frame to the next, space-times that remain invisible without precise manipulation.<br>This is the principle that guides my current work: <strong>making perceptible a world that appears only when images encounter each other differently.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long before I found my \u201cthing,\u201d I already had the intuition that movement was merely an illusion of chained memory. This conviction was confirmed when, pausing my own footage, the geometric shapes I believed I had seen dissolved, leaving only a single line. The square I had \u201cseen\u201d had indeed existed \u2014 but in a space-time that only reveals itself through the flow of frames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I call <strong>my \u201cthing\u201d<\/strong> is not a trick: it is an adjustment of the real. Just as the Maltese cross mechanism once revealed a galloping horse from a sequence of still images, <strong>my process reveals other forms of existence<\/strong> \u2014 just as real \u2014 but perceptible only through a reimagined frame-by-frame montage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the traditional audiovisual industry \u2014 which I practiced for many years \u2014 one typically begins with voice, discourse, narrative, and then \u201cdresses\u201d it with images.<br>For me, it has always been the opposite: <strong>I begin with the image<\/strong>, the way a painter begins with a blank canvas. Je n\u2019obtenais qu\u2019un d\u00e9cor qui glissait. Rien ne s\u2019animait encore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour \u00e9lucider le myst\u00e8re de l\u2019image par image, j\u2019ai plong\u00e9 dans les bobines Super 8 que mon p\u00e8re conservait dans son tiroir. Leur vision au compte-gouttes, \u00e0 la loupe, m\u2019a offert les premi\u00e8res r\u00e9v\u00e9lations : <strong>le cin\u00e9ma est d\u2019abord une m\u00e9moire organis\u00e9e<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il m\u2019a fallu huit ans pour trouver la pile rare qui redonnait vie \u00e0 la cam\u00e9ra Fujifilm de mon p\u00e8re. Puis un projecteur. Et enfin, le choc : toutes ces images fixes align\u00e9es sur la pellicule devenaient un seul mouvement projet\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>Origins&nbsp;: Frame by frame<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand what I do today, we must return to the child who wanted to bring drawings to life.<br>With a cardboard box turned into a TV, paper rolls, and sheets taped together, I tried to create motion. All I got was a sliding background. Nothing truly animated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To solve the mystery of frame-by-frame, I immersed myself in the Super 8 reels my father had hidden in his nightstand. Ce qui m\u2019a boulevers\u00e9, c\u2019est la certitude que <strong>le cin\u00e9ma n\u2019a pas pour essence le mouvement, mais la m\u00e9moire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le choc esth\u00e9tique arriva imm\u00e9diatement avec <em>An\u00e9mic Cin\u00e9ma<\/em> de Duchamp.<br>Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019enseignement de Claudine Eizykman et Dominique Willoughby, qui co-dirigeaient Cin\u00e9doc Paris Films Coop, j\u2019ai plong\u00e9 dans les \u0153uvres de Breer, Snow, Haxton, Richter, L\u00e9ger, Deren, Mekas, Brakhage, Kubelka (sur lequel portait mon m\u00e9moire, autour de <em>Arnulf Rainer<\/em>), pour ne citer qu\u2019eux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J\u2019y ai compris que le cin\u00e9ma exp\u00e9rimental n\u2019est pas un simple genre, mais une mani\u00e8re d\u2019habiter autrement le cin\u00e9ma : un territoire o\u00f9 l\u2019image pense avant l\u2019histoire.<br>Une alternative lib\u00e9r\u00e9e du r\u00e9cit, qui interroge les limites du m\u00e9dium et explore ce que l\u2019image peut r\u00e9v\u00e9ler lorsqu\u2019on cesse de lui imposer une histoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>Studies and Experimental Cinema<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before entering Paris 8 University, I had already discovered that cinema could overturn time\u2014letting the future emerge before the past and the present, rearranging moments the way one arranges a thought.<br>At Paris 8, I discovered experimental cinema. Chaque cartouche co\u00fbtait cher : <strong>je savais exactement combien valait chaque image<\/strong>. Cela m\u2019a appris la pr\u00e9cision, et \u00e0 rester parcimonieux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puis un jour, sur un passage \u00e0 niveau, au soleil couchant, j\u2019ai d\u00e9couvert mon \u00ab truc \u00bb&nbsp;: \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e des chemins, sur la voie de chemin de fer, j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de manipuler ma cam\u00e9ra image apr\u00e8s image comme je ne l\u2019avais jamais fait avant. Une biche s\u2019est arr\u00eat\u00e9e sur les rails, m\u2019a regard\u00e9e, tandis que je continuais ma \u00ab&nbsp;danse&nbsp;\u00bb.<br>En visionnant la pellicule, j\u2019ai vu appara\u00eetre un espace-temps in\u00e9dit, jamais vu ailleurs.<br>Ce fut <strong><em>D-Rails<\/em><\/strong>, en 1998.<br>Le d\u00e9but de ma p\u00e9riode D, o\u00f9 tous mes films portent un D, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au ronronnement sonore du projecteur Super 8 quand il projette un film&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d&nbsp;\u00bb. D car c\u2019est aussi la 4<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup> lettre de l\u2019alphabet et que le 4 \u00e9voque un point de croix, une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au tissage et \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re que j\u2019ai de proc\u00e9der pour monter mes films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Car mes \u00ab sc\u00e9narios \u00bb sont des combinaisons possibles d\u2019images, inspir\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e9chiquier de Punnett ou tableau des croisements : un <strong>caricario<\/strong>, non un sc\u00e9nario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>D Period: a method, not a coincidence<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My small Kodak Super 8 camera could shoot frame by frame. Each cartridge was expensive: <strong>I knew exactly how much each image cost<\/strong>. It taught me precision, and to remain sparing.<br>Then one day, at a level crossing at sunset, I discovered my \u201cthing\u201d: standing at a crossroads, on the railway tracks, I decided to manipulate my camera frame by frame in a way I had never done before. Aucun trucage.<br>Juste une mani\u00e8re diff\u00e9rente d\u2019organiser les m\u00e9moires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 m\u2019a ouvert une r\u00e9flexion plus vaste : si ces formes existent dans le temps du d\u00e9filement, alors peut-\u00eatre que notre monde lui-m\u00eame est une illusion de mouvement \u2014 un arrangement particulier de souvenirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En exp\u00e9rimentant ainsi l\u2019image par image, avec mon truc, j\u2019ai compris que l\u2019univers qui nous entoure n\u2019existe peut-\u00eatre pas tel que nous le percevons au quotidien, et que ce que nous appelons \u201cr\u00e9alit\u00e9\u201d n\u2019est peut-\u00eatre qu\u2019une illusion de mouvement \u2014 un montage de m\u00e9moires encha\u00een\u00e9es.<br>En osant r\u00e9agencer les images autrement, j\u2019ai bris\u00e9 les codes du cin\u00e9ma standard, ceux qui imposent une continuit\u00e9, un r\u00e9cit, une logique de flux.<br>Et en brisant ces codes, j\u2019ai entrevu un autre mode d\u2019existence du monde, qui ne se r\u00e9v\u00e8le que lorsqu\u2019on observe autrement, lorsque l\u2019on laisse la mati\u00e8re \u201cpenser\u201d \u00e0 travers l\u2019image.<br>Mon \u201ctruc\u201d n\u2019est pas un effet : c\u2019est une mani\u00e8re de regarder que le cin\u00e9ma traditionnel ne permet pas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>A technique achieved without trickery<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Muybridge\u2019s galloping horse \u2014 which moves only because a mechanism scrolls its images \u2014 my figures exist solely in their passage.<br>Freeze the frame, and everything disappears. op\u00e9rateur streaming-media et monteur.<br>Mon r\u00f4le principal \u00e9tait de mettre en ligne plusieurs fois par jour le journal t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9 de <strong>TV5 Monde<\/strong>, un rythme qui prolongeait \u00e0 sa mani\u00e8re ce que j\u2019avais observ\u00e9 chez Visas Express : un monde qui circule, se transforme, se connecte.<br>Nous travaillions \u00e0 Montrouge, dans un open space partag\u00e9 avec d\u2019autres soci\u00e9t\u00e9s, dont une tr\u00e8s petite structure qui tentait \u2014 de fa\u00e7on alors totalement pr\u00e9curseure \u2014 d\u2019envoyer des vid\u00e9os d\u2019un t\u00e9l\u00e9phone portable \u00e0 un autre.<br>J\u2019y avais r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un petit logo anim\u00e9, <em>ViewOn TV<\/em>, ultra-l\u00e9ger (quelques octets), qui r\u00e9ussissait \u00e0 passer d\u2019un t\u00e9l\u00e9phone \u00e0 l\u2019autre : un avant-go\u00fbt du streaming mobile, bien avant son essor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans cette p\u00e9riode, j\u2019ai \u00e9galement commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 monter des films d\u2019entreprise, \u00e0 couvrir de petits \u00e9v\u00e9nements, \u00e0 g\u00e9rer des captations et des retransmissions en direct. Une entr\u00e9e concr\u00e8te dans le num\u00e9rique, au c\u0153ur d\u2019un moment o\u00f9 tout \u00e9tait en train de basculer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>Streaming-Media Operator &amp; Editor \u2014 ViewOn TV<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2002 to 2004, I worked as a streaming-media operator and video editor.<br>My main role was to upload the TV5 Monde daily news broadcast several times a day \u2014 a rhythm that, in its own way, echoed what I had witnessed at Visas Express: a world in motion, constantly shifting and connecting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We worked in Montrouge, in an open space shared with other companies, including a very small startup that was \u2014 quite ahead of its time \u2014 trying to send video files from one mobile phone to another.<br>I created a tiny animated logo, <em>ViewOn TV<\/em>, ultra-lightweight (just a few bytes), which successfully transferred from one phone to another: an early glimpse of mobile streaming, long before it became widespread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During that period, I also began editing corporate films, covering small events, and handling live recordings and retransmissions. wp-block-accordion-panel-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>En 2005, j\u2019ai effectu\u00e9 plusieurs mois de stage au sein de Cinedoc Paris Films Coop, dirig\u00e9e par mes professeurs de Paris 8.<br>Mon r\u00f4le consistait principalement \u00e0 v\u00e9rifier et contr\u00f4ler les copies 16 mm au retour des locations sur un banc de v\u00e9rification : inspection des pellicules, \u00e9tat des collures et des photogrammes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce travail m\u2019a permis de faire le lien direct entre les films exp\u00e9rimentaux que j\u2019\u00e9tudiais \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 et leur r\u00e9alit\u00e9 mat\u00e9rielle : en les tournant manuellement, image apr\u00e8s image, je pouvais voir leur construction intime, leur structure, leur logique interne \u2014 ce que la projection \u00e0 24 images\/s ne permet pas.<br>Ce travail quotidien au contact direct des films exp\u00e9rimentaux m\u2019a donn\u00e9 une compr\u00e9hension mat\u00e9rielle encore plus fine du support, de sa fragilit\u00e9 et de sa mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Par souci de conservation, j\u2019avais m\u00eame mis en place un simple thermom\u00e8tre \u00e0 enregistrement de mini\/maxi pour suivre la temp\u00e9rature du local : un d\u00e9tail modeste, mais r\u00e9v\u00e9lateur de l\u2019attention que je portais d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 du support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>Film Archive Intern \u2014 Cinedoc Paris Films Coop (Paris)<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2005, I spent several months as an intern at Cinedoc Paris Films Coop, run by my professors from Paris 8.<br>My main task was to inspect and check 16 mm prints upon their return from rentals, using a film inspection bench: examining the reels, checking splices, and assessing the condition of individual frames.<br>This work created a direct link between the experimental films I studied at the university and their material reality: by advancing the reel manually, frame by frame, I could observe their intimate construction \u2014 their structure, rhythm, and internal logic \u2014 something that projection at 24 frames per second conceals.<br>Daily contact with these experimental films gave me an even deeper, hands-on understanding of the medium, its fragility, and its physical presence.<br>Out of concern for preservation, I even set up a simple minimum\/maximum recording thermometer to monitor the room\u2019s temperature \u2014
